Labor Day Weekend

Grandma Lou Lou and Grandpa came out to visit for the long weekend.  We did some work around the house and took a day trip into Estes and Rocky Mountain National Park.

The park was the busiest we've ever experienced.  While we couldn't get into the areas of the park we'd planned on, we got to explore some other ones.  We happened upon Hidden Valley and it was the perfect area for picnicking and exploring (quiet, low-key, easy trails).

It was chilly up there!

After spending the morning hiking and picnicking in Hidden Valley, we drove over and hiked some the boulders of the Alluvial Fan area.  For those interested (and so I don't forget ;)) the definition of an alluvial fan: "An alluvial fan is a triangle-shaped deposit of gravel, sand, and even smaller pieces of sediment, such as silt. This sediment is called alluvium. Alluvial fans are usually created as flowing water interacts with mountains, hills, or the steep walls of canyons."

Traversing the boulders.

It was nice having the sun come out and warm us up.

Some well-deserved ice cream in Estes Park.

Ride back home.  Within the next week, Ava and her WubbaNub would be parting ways - for good!

During their visit, Rob and my dad added crown molding to the office, dining room and main floor powder bath.  They did an awesome job and in quick time, too!!!

There was just enough time toward the end of their visit to paint the crown molding and some door trim.  Rob would finish painting the room after they left.

Enjoying some fun time with Grandma LouLou outside on the deck.
